Internationalization subsidy
Centralised internationalization subsidy in Arvelin International Oy's joint stands 2011

Arvelin International Oy will apply for internationalization subsidy from Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment on behalf of the companies located in its joint stand provided that there are at least 4 companies attending the same exhibition.To companies, this means that in the joint stands provided by Arvelin International, SME and big companies have a chance to receive government subsidy for attending an exhibition as a joint project. The subsidy can be applied for the following costs: rent for stand surface area, stand building, freight and forwarding and the travelling expenses of one representative of a company (see in detail below).

Direct internationalization subsidy available to companies

SME's (small and medium sized enterprises) can apply for government internationalization subsidy that is available at their regional Employment and Economic Development Centres. The Centres do not issue the subsidy to large-scale enterprises.

Companies entitled to internationalization subsidy

  1. Registered companies in Finland that export Finnish products or services and possess the resources required for pursuing continuous successful export operations.
  2. The domestic content and quality grade of the company's export products must be at least 50%.
  3. Companies registered in the Åland Islands are not entitled to such subsidy.
  4. In joint projects, legal enterprises that are part of the same group are considered as separate companies when there are at least four independent enterprises present.
  5. Government subsidy shall not exceed 75% for space rental and 50% other costs for SME's and 25% for large-scale enterprises. Amount of employees for SME's companies should be<250. According to last settlement of accounts annual turnover<50 Meur or total amount of balance < 43 Meur. The SME-company must also meet the criteria defined for corporate independence bellow. Independent company is company, who’s capital or voting right 25% or more is not held by such company or companies, which can not fulfil above mentioned terms of SME-companies.
  6. The maximum scope of the subsidy channelled to individual companies in one occasion is 30.000 EUR.
  7. The receiver of the subsidy must also be the holder of the stand, that is, the company cannot attend an exhibition in the stand of its local retailer, for example. The company can, however, attend it in the name of its local subsidiary if the costs arising from this are covered by its parent company in Finland and if the stand displays products manufactured by the said parent company.

Subsidy targets

Maximum government subsidy for SME’s companies 75% for space rental and 50% for other costs. Large-scale enterprises 25%, covering

  1. Technical provisions
    • rent for stand surface area, stand building, additional furnishings, stand graphics
    • stand phones, electric and water connections, electricity and water consumption
    • daily cleaning at the stand
  2. Seminars or lectures implemented in the form of a joint project*
  3. A press meeting, TV and newspaper advertising, joint brochure/video and other related advertising, implemented as a joint project*
  4. Obligatory ad in the display catalogue (additional ads can only be accepted if ordered by all the participants and if a joint ad is ordered as a joint project)
  5. Travel expenses of one (1) representative: airport taxi journeys in Finland and the target country, hotels, travel expenses, daily allowances.
  6. The return freight and forwarding costs of the exhibits (if the exhibit will remain in the target country, no support will be granted to cover one-way freight costs). One-way freight costs and forwarding of brochures, posters and other decoration materials  will be granted subsidy.
  7. The salaries and travel expenses of a jointly hired interpreter, secretary or some other expert
  8. No subsidy will be granted to cover the costs caused to a participant from producing brochures, pictures or advertising agency work.


*= A joint project requires that all the companies attending the joint stand participate in the occasion.
